Yalgoo is located in the Murchison region 499 kilometres north east of Perth and two hours east of Geraldton in the state's mid-west.
The town has a population of about 160 residents and is located along the Geraldton to Mount Magnet Road east of Mullewa, at an elevation of 318 metres above sea level.
A former gold mining town, the economy of the area now revolves around servicing huge sheep stations and occasional mining activities.
The town features several well-preserved buildings which were constructed during the early years of the 20th century, after gold was discovered in the area during the 1890s. Very little now remains of this once thriving town, although what does remain is well preserved. There is an old world charm about the town, which includes an excellent museum and a restored former railway station.
