Wagin is located approximately 225 kilometres south-east of Perth on the Great Southern Highway, in the Great Southern region, on State Route 107 between Narrogin and Katanning.

It is one of the largest towns in the Southern Wheatbelt region with some 1500 local residents, the Woolorama, one of the state's largest Agricultural Shows is held each year in early March, and attracts over 30,000 visitors.

The main industries in the area consist of wheat and sheep farming. The huge statue of a ram which towers over the town was built by residents in 1985 to acknowledge the prosperity created in the area by the wool industry.

Wagin Woolorama is an annual agricultural event held in the town each year during early March. Visit the Wagin Woolorama website to learn more.

A historical village near the town contains 26 buildings which display the history of the region. Four of the buildings, the school, the bank, the quarantine ward and the hall were relocated to the village from elsewhere in the town. Other buildings such as the stone church were specially constructed in keeping with the styles of the pioneering period.
