Trayning is located 236 kilometres east of Perth, between the towns of Wyalkatchem and Nungarin in the north-eastern Wheatbelt region.

The area has a resident population of about 430, with about 180 people living within the town. It is a tourist base for exploring the local wildflower displays.

It has an average rainfall of 300 mm and an average farm size of 2500 hectares, in addition to growing wheat, sheep are grazed and some oats, barley and lupins are also grown in the area.

The town has a primary school plus a pre primary, a hotel/motel, post office, grocers, a general store, a caravan park, mechanical services and a restaurant plus several other outlets. Also, a police station and an ambulance service, plus a 25-metre swimming pool and two 18-hole golf courses.
