Toodyay is located 85 km north-east of Perth in the wheatbelt region, and is connected to the city via road and rail.

The town provides a number of facilities and services including retail outlets, banks, a post office, community resource centre, library, chemist, hardware, supermarket, garage, gift stores, bakery, hotels and restaurants. Also, sporting facilities which include bowling greens, tennis courts, equestrian, skate parks, plus cricket, football and hockey fields.

Also, a number of tourist attractions are available, including olive oil farms, lavender farms, holiday retreats, hotels, caravan parks and an archery park.

The Toodyay Agricultural Show is organised and operated by members of the Toodyay Agricultural Society Inc. and runs in mid October.

The Moondyne Festival takes place each year on the first Sunday in May, when the town is transformed for the event.

A commuter train service operates between the town and Perth, with growing numbers of individuals working from home and increasing numbers of fly in fly out workers who work in the mining industry are living in the area, The town is also a popular location for people who are seeking an alternative home base. Plus, the area is increasingly attractive to retirees from the city.

An industrial park is located approximately 5km close to town and currently accommodates several light industries. Also, a future industrial area has been identified to accommodate the long term future industrial needs of the area.
