Tom Price is located 1,456 kilometres north of Perth, in the Pilbara region.

It is an iron ore mining town located near the edge of the Hamersley Ranges. The mine is located approximately 5 kilometres outside the town.

The town was constructed as a service centre to provide accommodation for the miners. It is the highest town in the state at an elevation of 747 metres above sea level, and is located at the base of Mount Nameless, which is the state's highest peak.

Access to the town is via sealed roads. A population of about 2,700 live in the town, the vast majority of who are associated with the mining activities. The town is serviced by the nearby Paraburdoo Airport, with access to the town via shuttle bus or by hire car, and it is the nearest town to Karijini National Park.

The climate has low humidity and an average maximum winter temperature of 28 degrees and 40 degrees in the summer. Although temperatures can on occasions reach 48 degrees in summer and get as low as 0 degrees during winter.
