Shoalwater is located in the City of Rockingham, 45 kilometres south of Perth.
The area has a resident population of about 3000 and covers 2.4 square kilometres.
It is an oceanside location immediately to the south of Rockingham town site, with its southern boundary on Warnbro Sound and its western boundary also on the Indian Ocean facing a series of small offshore islands including Penguin Island.
Several public parks are available within the area, plus extensive ocean foreshore reserves are located on the coast.
