The surrounding area which has a total population of about 18,000, provides opportunities to enjoy a country lifestyle, with farms, orchards and historic country towns containing historic buildings which house museums and heritage collections, plus arts and crafts displays and tea gardens. The spectacular rural settings have inspired many artists to establish homes and studios within the area.

The National Park covers 4,300 hectares, and a 500 metre walk trail located alongside the river leads to the falls and to picnic areas where barbecues and public toilets are available.
