Sandstone is located 661 kilometres north of Perth and 157 kilometres
east of Mount Magnet in the Mid West region.
The town is a centre for the region’s pastoral industry. It has a resident population of about 200 and is the administrative centre of the Shire of Sandstone.
The National Hotel constructed in 1909 is the only remaining hotel in town. Accommodation is available at the hotel, plus motel style outback accommodation is available, plus a caravan park.
From July to September, the surrounding country is transformed from red earth to a carpet of colour with spectacular displays of wildflowers.
The area has a rich goldrush history, and the Sandstone Gold Mine is located 6 km south east of the town.
