Roebourne is located 1,563 kilometres from Perth and 202 kilometres from Port Hedland on the North West Coastal Highway in the Pilbara region.

Formerly a gold mining town, Roebourne now services passing highway traffic and tourism, acting as the gateway to several national parks located in the interior.

The town is located 12 metres above sea level and has a population of about 1100. It contains a school, a college campus, a library, a community resource centre and a small hospital. The shire of Roebourne has a total population of about 20,000.
