Postans is located in the Town of Kwinana, 35 kilometres south of Perth.

There are no residents in the area, which covers 2.5 square kilometres.

The area contains an agriculture research station known as "Medina Research Station", which is part of the Department of Agriculture and Food of the state government of Western Australia.

The area is otherwise dominated by several quarries, tailing ponds of the nearby Alcoa alumina refinery and a facility known as the "Kwinana Wastewater Treatment Plant".

The Beelair Regional Park is located the the east and contains the Spectacles Wetlands. Thomas Road runs east to west to the south of the area. Rockingham Road is located to the west and runs north to south.
