Point Samson
Point Samson is located 1,579 kilometres north of Perth and 18 km north
of Roebourne in the Pilbara region.
The resident population of the area is about 300. The main industry is fishing, and a large commercial fishing fleet operates. The town is also a popular holiday destination for residents of nearby mining towns.
The town is famous for its fish and chips and seafood, and accommodation ranges from four-star resorts and bed and breakfast services to caravan parks and holiday homes.
The wharf at Cape Lambert is located 2 kilometres from town and is one of the highest and longest open ocean wharves in the country, extending more than 2.5 kilometres out to sea.
The local sandy beaches and fringing coral reefs offer good opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and fishing activities. The tidal rivers contain a variety of fish and crustations, including catfish, barramundi, prawns, blue manna crabs and mud crabs. Also, queenfish, spanish mackerel, cod and a variety of other fish can be caught from coastal spots in the area and the surrounding islands.
The nearby abandoned town of Cossack has been restored to provide visitors with an insight into lives of early local settlers.
