Paraburdoo is located 1,536 kilometres north of Perth and 79 kilometres
southwest of Tom Price in the Pilbara region. The town was developed
during the early 1970s to support Hamersley Iron's (now Pilbara Iron)
iron ore mining operations.
The majority of the town's 2000+ residents work in Pilbara Iron's mining operation and supporting services at the three nearby mines - Channar, Eastern Range and Paraburdoo.
The town is located in the Hamersley Ranges 365 metres above sea level and on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert. The area is noted for the beauty of its scenery and its variety of wildlife.
