Mullewa is located 450 kilometres north of Perth, 98 kilometres east-northeast of Geraldton and 282 m above sea level.

The primary reason for the existence of the town is the nearby railhead and the bulk loading facilities. The town is surrounded by vast pastoral and mining areas.

Also, iron ore is hauled 65 km from nearby Tallering Peak, and loaded onto railway wagons for haulage 107 km to the coast, where it is loaded onto ships for export.

The Mullewa Polocrosse Club Carnival is held in mid August each year at the Mullewa Polocrosse Grounds.

The Mullewa Agricultural Show with its famous sprint, the Mullewa Gift, is held in the town each year during early September at the Mullewa Recreation Grounds.

The Inaugrial Mullewa Muster & Rodeo takes place in early June 2012 at the Mullewa Recreation Grounds. See the poster on the right for details.

The Mullewa Wildflower Show is held at the end of August each year in the town hall, and attracts visitors from far and wide who come to see the magnificent displays of local wildflowers.

The town provides hotel and motel accommodation, plus a modern caravan park and the Pindar Pub, which offers bed and breakfast accommodation.

Charles Truslove wrote a poem about the pub at Mullewa running out of beer. A tragedy that was re told in a ballad sung by the Australian country and western singing icon, the late Slim Dusty.
