Manjimup is located 307 kilometres south of Perth, and is a regional centre for the largest shire in the South West of the state with a population of about 15,000 (2011). The town's major industry is timber, although fruit and vegetable farms, dairy farms, wool, grain and vineyards also operate within the region.

The Pink Lady apple was created in Manjimup and is now grown around the world. Manjimup also produced frozen French fries, and until the 1960's a lucrative tobacco industry operated in the area. Spring water, marri flooring and apples are exported to markets in Saudi Arabia, Singapore and India.

The Cherry Harmony Festival has operated during December each years since 2001 and is an annual celebration of the wonderful community that exist in and around the town of Manjimup.

Timber is the town's main industry, although fruit and vegetable farms, dairy farms, wool, grain and vineyards are increasingly important in the area.

The area is the leading Australian-mainland producer of black truffles. The local climate is similar to that of truffle-growing areas in Europe. Local truffles are supplied to restaurants in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, and requests for samples have been received from restaurants in Europe.

Research is also being conducted into the production of green tea in thr area. Experts having identified suitable for growing green tea based on the climate and its clean green image, fertile soils and good rainfall". The Manjimup/Pemberton area is a similar distance from the equator as the prime tea-growing area of Shizuoka in Japan, plus has similar acidic soils and an average annual temperature. Trials involving several varieties of green tea are being conducted to determine which ones will be successful.
