Leinster is a mining town located 968 kilometres northeast of Perth,
and 4km east of the Goldfields Highway.
The town has an airport, caravan park, supermarket, post office, service station, primary school and a tavern. Plus, sporting facilities including an indoor sports centre and 18 hole golf course. The population of the town is about 1500.

The Leinster Nickel Operation is now part of the BHP Billiton Nickel West business group. The mine employs about 1000 workers and produces 40,000 - 45,000 tons of nickel concentrate per year.
Apart from the Nickel mine, gold was also mined 41 km south east of Leinster, at the Thunderbox Gold Mine, between 2002 and 2007.
