Kununurra is located in the far north of the state on the eastern side of the Kimberley region, approximately 3,040 kilometres from Perth via the Great Northern Highway and 37 kilometres from the Northern Territory border.

It is the largest town in the state north of Broome, the closest town is Wyndham which located 100 kilometres to the north west.

Situated among the scenic hills and ranges of the far north-east Kimberley Region, with an abundance of fresh water due to the nearby Ord River Diversion Dam and the main Ord River Dam.

Tropical agriculture crops are grown in the Ord River Irrigation Area. Tourism and mining are also important contributors to the local economy.

The Kununurra Agricultural Show is held in early July each year at the Showgrounds, and is organised and operated by the Kununurra Agricultural Society.

The Kununurra Bushmans Campdraft & Rodeo is held at the Kununurra Rodeo grounds each year in late July.

Kununurra Markets are held at the Showgrounds each Saturday morning from May to September.

The Kununurra Community Resource Centre is located on Coolibah Drive, and provides a broad range of technology related services within the community.
