Kookynie is located in the Eastern Goldfields region, 796 kilometres
east-north-east of Perth.
From being a busy gold mining town with a population of around 3500 and many facilities in 1907, Kookynie had by 2005 become a ghost town with only a handful of permanent residents remaining in the town.
The town does however still cater for many tourists, prospectors, fossickers, mining and exploration companies, plus pastoralists and a local resident population of thirteen. More information.
