Karrakatta is located in the City of Nedlands, 7 kilometres west of Perth.
The area is composed of two distinct areas. The largest is Karrakatta Cemetery, which began service in 1899. Plus, a small industrial area on the south, which is occupied mostly by monument builders, associated companies and the depot for City of Nedlands. The area to the north of the rail line and Karrakatta railway station is occupied by the Irwin Army Barracks.
The rail line and Railway Road form the north west boundary of the area, with Smyth Road and Dalkeith Road forming the eastern bounday and Karrington Street and Karella Street form in the southern boundary. Aberdare Road is to the north and Loch Street is to the west.
