Kambalda is located 60 kilometres from Kalgoorlie and 616 kilometres from Perth.

It is a nickel mining town that consists of two town sites, Kambalda East and Kambalda West which are located 4 kilometres apart.

The town is serviced with a medium sized grocery store, a bank branch, post office, newsagency, public library, recreation centre and two schools.

Two petrol stations provide services, one within Kambalda West and one near Kambalda East.

Several mining companies operate in the area, including BHP Billiton, Goldfields, Lightning Nickel, and GHB. The population of the town has declined steadily during recent years due to the trend toward the fly-in fly-out rostering of mine employees.

Other than the Red Hill Lookout views over Lake Lefroy, and the opportunity to drive across the causeway, the towns have  little appeal to visitors.
