Jurien Bay is located 266 kilometres north of Perth and 195 km south of Geraldton on the Indian Ocean coast.

The town is the seat of government for the Shire of Dandaragan, and is the largest town along this stretch of coastline with a permanent population of about 1,200. Plus, is one of several towns in Western Australia that the State Government identified in 2011 for development into super towns.

Industry in the area consists of crayfishing and tourism, with the population almost doubling during the crayfishing season. Housing and construction are the main employment activities, and a coastal road, the Indian Ocean Drive connects the town to the nearby coastal communities of Leeman, Cervantes and Green Head.

Facilities within the town include a community resource centre, a supermarket, police station, family resource and child daycare centre. Plus, sporting facilities, recreational jetty, restaurants, a small boat harbour and marina, a sealed and lit airstrip and a medical centre. The town also also has a district high school and is visited daily by a Greyhound coach service from Perth.

The Blessing of the Fleet, is a local event which takes place within the town each year during November.
