Darlington is located on the Darling Scarp in the Shire of Mundaring, 20 kilometres east of Perth.

The area has a population of about 3500, and covers an area of 11.9 square kilometres. The elevation ranges from about 30 metres to 297 metres above sea level.

Itis located to the south of the Great Eastern Highway and to the east of Greenmount National Park. Nyaania Creek flows through the area before joining the Helena River, which then flows down the Darling Scarp at Katharine Park, before joining the Swan River downstream from Guildford Bridge.

The Darlington Arts Festival has been held in the area for more than 40 years. The event includes art exhibitions and other events and is held each year on the Darlington Village Oval during early November.
