The City of Cockburn is located 24 kilometres south of Perth.
The area has a resident population of about 75,000, and covers 167.5 square kilometres, reaching from a location just south of Fremantle to a location just north of Kwinana, and reaching inland from the Indian Ocean to the Kwinana Freeway. Agriculture and ship building industries, plus tourism and service industries are major activities within the area.
The population growth in the area is substantial and is expected to reach more than 100,000 by 2016. New homes are completed and and new businesses open somewhere in the city each day. Plus, new roads are constantly being built and existing roads improved to cater for the ever increasing number of vehicles.
In 2011 the area had about 27,000 residences and over 2000 businesses, with the capacity for another 15,000 residences. The commercial development and creation of community facilities required to meet the needs and expectations of the growing populace is substantial.
