Claremont is located within the Town of Claremont local government area, 9 kilometres west-south-west of Perth.
The area has a residential population of about 7000, and covers an area of 3.7 square kilometres.
The Perth Royal Show is held in the area each year in early October at the Royal Agriculture Society Showgrounds located on Graylands Road to the north of the rail line. The showground is so large that it even has its own railway station.The Perth Royal Show and its predecessor the Fair and Cattle Show have been an ongoing feature of the Western Australian calendar since 1834.
The area is serviced by both the Claremont rail station and Loch Street rail station, plus is serviced by the Showgrounds rail station during periods when special events are held.
Most of the area is residential, although a large shopping area is located along Stirling Highway. Also, the Showgrounds plus the eastern half of Creswell Park and part of Lake Claremont are located within the area.
