It is bounded to the west, north and north-east by the Swan River. While to the east by the Graham Farmer Freeway and the Armadale railway line. To the south west by Shepperton Road and to the south by Harper Street. The Great Eastern Highway cuts east-west through the area.

The most visually significant buildings in the area consist of the Burswood Entertainment Complex, which  includes two hotels, a casino, convention centre, restaurants, bars, nightclub, convention centre, theatre and indoor stadium.

Also, residential multi-storey towers have been constructed on the peninsula. The area also contains a golf course and extensive parklands along the foreshore. The State Tennis Centre and Belmont Park Racecourse are also located on the peninsula.
