Burns Beach is located in the City of Joondalup, 34 kilometres north west of Perth.
The location has a resident population that numbers several thousand and is growing rapidly as many new homes have been and are being built in the area.
It is bordered by the ocean to the west, while Marmion Avenue forms the eastern boundary and Burns Beach Road marks the southern Boundary. The area is separated from the Mindarie-Clarkson urban region to the north by Tamala Park, which on the ocean side of Marmion Avenue currently (2011) consists of undeveloped bushland and natural sand dunes.
Costa Del Sol Cafe and Restaurant located at the edge of the Indian Ocean at the end of Burns Beach Road is very popular with locals and visitors, and provides magnificent views of the ocean and the coastline.
When we first visited the cafe in the early 1980s, the road from Joondalup was a quiet and narrow country lane, with native vegetation, kangaroos, bird life, no houses, no intersecting roads, and virtually no cars.
Now, after almost thirty years the area is nearly completely built out with thousands of new homes, a freeway, traffic lights, roundabouts, lots of traffic, multi-storey apartments and a bridge that takes the trains over the multi carriageway Burns Beach Road. Plus Marmion Avenue, which formerly ended at Ocean Reef, but which now runs north all the way to Yanchep.
