Bridgetown is located on the Blackwood River in the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes, approximately 270 kilometres south of Perth at the intersection of South Western Highway and the Brockman Highway.

Many buildings located within the town centre are over a 100 years old. The town has a Museum and a Jigsaw Gallery, which hosts the only jigsaw collection of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.

The town is set beside the Blackwood River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and fruit, dairy and sheep farming country. The town has a growing population of 2000 plus, and has been awarded the status of Historic Town by the National Trust of Australia.

Many bridges have been built across the Blackwood River at Bridgetown, including one of the last large wooden bridges to be built in Western Australia. This bridge, which was built in 1981 is a colossal jarrah structure stretching for 127.5 metres across the river.

The river rises in the southern wheatbelt area of Western Australia, from where the usually placid, occasionally wild, although always majestic river flows for more than 270 kilometres before discharging into the ocean at Augusta.
