It is a rural settlement with a resident population of about 750 and an elevation above sea level of 135 metres. The township services a predominantly cattle, sheep and fruit growing area. The Great Northern Highway runs north-south through the area and joins the Bindoon Moora Road.

The majority of training and selection for the Australian Special Air Service Regiment takes place in the area. Some of the army facilities include live-firing ranges and the Brigade Special Training Facilities.

A number of wineries and orchards operate in the area, plus the town has a hotel and a roadhouse is located nearby. Bed and Breakfast services are available in the area, and local markets are held on the last Sunday of each month except December, from 8am to 1pm.
