Anketell

Anketell is located 34 kilometres south of Perth, close to the town of Kwinana.

The area has a resident population of about 240 and covers 6.8 square kilometres. It is a semi rural location, consisting mainly of farmlets and regional parks

The Spectacles Wetlands is located nearby within the Spectacles Regional Park. The Kwinana Freeway runs between it and the Jandakot Regional Park located to the east of the freeway. The Anketell Road is located to the north of the area, while Thomas Road is located to the south.

The wetlands are 360 hectares of natural bush and wetland and the most southerly of the chain of freshwater lakes known as the Beeliar Regional Park on the Swan coastal Plain.

The wetlands provide habitat for a range of flora and fauna. Two walking tracks form a 5 kilometre lake walk through the Paper Bark, Flooded Gum, Bracken Fern and Tea-Tree and a further 3 kilometre walk through Banksia, Sheoak and Grass Trees.

The wetlands area is a significant site for Aboriginal people, and is part of a route that links the Aboriginal peoples of the Murray and Swan rivers.
