Alfred Cove
Alfred Cove is located in the City of Melville on the Swan River, 13 kilometres south of Perth and 7 kilometres
east of Fremantle.
The area has a residential population of about 2,000 and covers 0.8 square kilometres.
Wireless Hill Park is located nearby, plus two waterfront reserves Alfred Cove Nature Reserve and Tompkins Park. These reserves provide access to Lucky Bay which is situated at one of the widest points on the Swan River. Point Walter Golf Course is located nearby on the river foreshore.
Wireless Hill Park is near the eastern boundary of the area, and provides magnificent views over the river and distant views east to the Darling Scarp. The Wireless Hill Telecommunications Museum is located within the park, which is the site of the first communications radio tower in the state.
The building in which the museum is located was constructed in 1912 as one of Australia's earliest radio communication centres. The collection of radio equipment on display ranges from the early technology to sophisticated, modern equipment, demonstrating the evolutionary processes the medium has undergone over the years. The park covers an area of 40 hectares and has been developed as a nature reserve.
Recreational fishing, prawning and sailing are popular activities on the river nearby.
